Our story

CAPSLOCK was founded in 2019 with a clear and simple belief: the cyber security industry needed new routes in, and education had to change to meet the reality of an increasingly digital world. Built by leaders with deep experience across cyber security, academia and industry, CAPSLOCK was created to challenge traditional barriers to entry and open up opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

After years of designing and delivering recognised cyber security programmes, our founders saw too many talented people excluded by academic requirements, financial constraints and narrow definitions of who belonged in tech. CAPSLOCK was created to do things differently, by combining real‑world industry insight with practical, inclusive education that focuses on potential, not privileged starting points.

We launched our first learner cohort in 2021, delivering an approach grounded in hands‑on, team‑based learning that reflects how cyber security actually works in practice. Since then, we’ve supported over 1,300 learners to build new skills, confidence and careers, while working closely with employers to strengthen the UK’s cyber workforce.

Today, CAPSLOCK partners with individuals, organisations and industry leaders to deliver award‑winning training that changes lives and strengthens national cyber resilience. From reskilling adults into new careers, to upskilling teams and developing diverse talent pipelines, our story continues to be shaped by one goal: creating meaningful opportunity while building a stronger, more inclusive future for cyber security.

Meet our founders

Dr Andrea Cullen MBE

Dr Andrea Cullen MBE

CAPSLOCK CCO and Co-founder

Andrea is a passionate advocate for making cyber security education accessible to everyone. With a background spanning GCHQ‑certified academia, C‑Suite expertise, and over a decade shaping digital skills, Andrea has dedicated her career to opening pathways for people traditionally excluded from the tech sector. She designed CAPSLOCK’s award‑winning curriculum to replace traditional academic barriers with practical, team‑based learning that reflects real industry needs, helping thousands of adults retrain into meaningful, future‑proof careers.

Alongside her work at CAPSLOCK, Andrea plays an influential role in strengthening the UK cyber ecosystem as Chair of DiSH Manchester and through advisory positions with universities, industry bodies and government groups. A highly respected speaker and mentor, she is known for making complex security topics relatable and empowering underrepresented communities to build confidence, stay safe online, and become active contributors to the digital workforce. Andrea’s leadership continues to elevate cyber security from a niche technical concern to a shared societal responsibility.

Lorna Armitage MBE

CAPSLOCK CEO and Co-founder

Lorna is one of the UK’s leading voices in cyber security education, workforce development and diversity in tech. With over 15 years of experience spanning strategic consulting, academic innovation, and entrepreneurship, Lorna has played a pivotal role in reshaping how adults access and enter the cyber industry. She has designed GCHQ‑certified programmes, held interim CISO roles, and built nationally recognised workforce solutions that tackle the UK’s critical cyber skills shortage.

A passionate advocate for inclusion, Lorna has dedicated her career to removing barriers into cyber, from pioneering accessible funding models to championing initiatives that support women, career‑changers and underrepresented groups. She brings technical depth together with education expertise to create programmes that are practical, hands‑on and aligned with real industry needs. Beyond CAPSLOCK, Lorna serves on national advisory boards including the Cyber Growth Partnership Board and the Cyber Resilience Centre for London, shaping policy and collaborating with industry leaders to strengthen the UK’s cyber workforce. Her work has made a lasting impact on diversity, professional pathways and the future of cyber security in the UK.
