Who can reskill with us?

We don’t have rigid entry requirements at CAPSLOCK, as we know that your academic past or current situation doesn’t dictate your future potential. No matter your background, if you meet the eligibility criteria here you can apply to enrol at CAPSLOCK (though you might need to meet other requirements for some of our payment options).

You are over the age of 18.

+

We reskill adults into cyber security professions, so you need to be over the age of 18 to enrol.

You can communicate in English

+

You need to be able to communicate with your tutors, classmates, and mentors using spoken and written English throughout the course, so must be able to speak and understand English to a conversational level.

You can attend and participate in at least 90% of the course and fully engage

+

You must be able to attend and fully participate in at least 90% of the scheduled sessions to successfully complete the CAPSLOCK bootcamp. We need to have your full attention during class hours so that you can participate in the sessions. This means that you can’t be working whilst you’re in sessions.

You are open to working with others and are willing to learn and participate

+

At CAPSLOCK, you will work closely with your peers in small groups. Understanding the importance of teamwork, and openly contributing and collaborating with your team is an essential part of the course. You need to have a desire to learn new skills, develop your existing transferable skills, and be willing to fully engage and participate in the course.

You have the basic IT skills and tech needed to succeed

+

You need to have basic computer skills to access our Digital Campus. You will need a laptop or desktop computer, a webcam, a microphone or headset, and a stable internet connection. As the course is interactive with lots of discussion, you must be on camera during sessions and have a suitable, quiet place at home to focus and engage.

Application process

Here's our admissions process, in a nutshell.

Application

Our application process is straightforward and open to everyone. We’ll ask you to complete a short, online form telling us your contact details, preferred course schedule and confirm your eligibility for the course.

Once that’s all done, keep an eye on your phone – our admissions team will be in touch!

Introductory call

It’s so important for us to get to know our applicants, so shortly after submitting your application form, you’ll receive a phone call from our friendly admissions team!

They’ll want to know more about what led you to apply why you’re interested in a career in cyber security.

Assessment

Once we’ve spoken with you and think our course will be a good fit, we’ll invite you to undertake a self assessment and complete some pre-course work to prepare you for joining the course.

Our pre-course work is designed to give you foundational knowledge and a commitment-free opportunity to see if cyber security is the right fit for you.

Interview

After completing your pre-course work, you’ll be invited to attend an interview with the admissions team. This will be an informal conversation via a Zoom call, lasting around 20 minutes.

This conversation will focus on your motivations and aspirations for the CAPSLOCK course and beyond.

Offer & Tuition Funding

If your interview is successful, the admissions team will send across an offer of a place on the course, which will be subject to you arranging your tuition funding.

At this stage, you’ll be invited to begin arranging your tuition funding with your chosen provider.

Confirmation & Enrolment

Once your tuition funding has been arranged, your place on the course will be confirmed.

You’ll be invited to formally enrol, which includes attending an enrolment session, and we’ll get you onboarded and ready to begin your CAPSLOCK journey.

Your questions, answered

How can I get help with the pre-course work?

+

If you need help with any part of the pre-course work, we’re happy to help. You can visit the CAPSLOCK Slack workspace and ask for help in the dedicated "pre-course_help" channel – or get in touch with the team.

Can I call someone to discuss my application?

+

We mostly communicate via email for continuity and audit purposes, however, we’d be very happy to arrange a time to speak with you over the phone, or via Zoom.

Get in touch or request a call back from our admissions team.

What are you looking for in an application?

+

First and foremost: honesty! Please take the time to go through the application form and answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.

We don't mind if you never did your A levels, if you know nothing about cyber yet, if you've been out of work for years, or anything else you might be worrying about. Just tell us about you.

In the 'Personal Statements' section of the application form, we're looking to get a sense of your reasons for wanting to switch careers, your background, your decision to join CAPSLOCK, and who you are as a person.  Please take this opportunity to really tell us about yourself - a one-sentence answer probably won't do.

Will the course affect my Universal Credit?

+

You can read government guidance on Universal Credit and students on the GOV.UK website.

Can I apply if I'm located outside of the UK?

+

We’re happy to take applications from outside of the UK, however, where you live will impact which payment options are available to you.

  • Living in the UK? You can access any of our payment methods, depending on your visa and right to work.
  • Living in Ireland? You can pay up-front, or access a Future Earnings Agreement, depending on your visa and right to work.
  • Living anywhere else? You’re welcome to apply if you’re able to pay-up front.

Whilst we welcome international applicants, please bear in mind that our course and careers support are tailored to a UK market.
